Veterans Day 2012

On the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month, at the Eleventh Hour, in the Year of Our Lord 1918, the Western Front became still as the guns fell silent.

All over Europe, tired and frightened men stopped shooting at each other, looked around, and marveled at the simple fact of being alive.

In the United States, we now call November 11th Veterans Day, when Veterans of the armed forces are honored. It’s also a day when the living Veterans think back and remember all the Veterans of the past, who can no longer be here.

So, at the Eleventh Hour, on this Eleventh Day, I will hoist one, and say “Absent Friends”.
